Lyft is expanding its Women+ Connect program to many new cities. This initiative was first a but now it is becoming more widespread.
Women+ is Connect It connects women and non-binary drivers to similarly identifying drivers and vice versa. It’s an added feature that aims to boost safety during rides while encouraging women and non-binary people to become riders of the platform. Lyft says about half of its drivers are women, but they only make up 23 percent of drivers.
How it works: You turn the feature on, and it will match you with a suitable driver based on the gender you entered when you signed up. For drivers, it uses the gender associated with the license on file. If there aren’t any female or non-binary fare seekers, you’ll still be matched with a male driver, so you’re not left out in the cold.
The program has launched in several cities, including Chicago, Phoenix and San Francisco. It’s apparently been a huge success for Lyft, with the company noting that 2.4 million drivers have turned on Women+ Connect since September, and more than half of eligible drivers have started using the service. It also says the feature has the highest satisfaction rating of any driver tool the company has ever launched.
