Samsung’s 2024 flagship is here. The S24 Ultra it has a new titanium frame, improved telephoto cameras and is packed with new AI smarts and features. It’s also more expensive than ever.
The AI features that mark this year’s S23 series aren’t the hardware, though. AI tools range from text and translation to photography and search. Many of these AI skills are already available in other services like ChatGPT and Bard, but it’s built into the S24 series at the base level, so you can summarize, auto-format, spell-check or translate your tasks from Notes, on the go. (The transcription also seems pretty impressive, but that could just be me being an excited journalist.)
Factor in a faster chip, a brighter screen and longer battery life, and the S24 Ultra makes for an upgrade. It’s just expensive.

This was due to EU anti-competitive concerns.
Amazon and iRobot, maker of the Roomba vacuum line, have announced that they have abandoned their proposed merger. The potential purchase was announced in August 2022, and the European Commission announced it in November on the potential impact on competition. Now that the deal isn’t going through, iRobot says the company is laying off about 350 workers, about 31 percent of its workforce. Colin Angle, founder, CEO and chairman of iRobot’s board of directors, is also stepping down as chairman and CEO.

Rocksteady’s new third-person action shooter Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League It was taken offline just an hour after launch after players encountered a strange bug that instantly crashed the game. This left players out of all story missions, including tutorials, in a race to reach the end credits. After the sun’s direction changed, the solar panels were recharged.
Japan’s lunar lander has regained power nine days after it nearly landed upside down on the moon’s surface and shut down. JAXA (Japan Aerospace Exploration Agency) said that the change in the sun’s position allowed the solar panels to receive light and charge the probe’s battery, so JAXA could restore communication. In any case, the mission was considered a success, since the main goal was a precise landing. He did just that, hitting a point just 55 meters (180 ft) from his target. Just… the wrong way.
Yes, it’s 2024. Why do you ask?
Back on Earth and in 2022, Japan’s Minister of Digital Affairs, Taro Kono, has called on various branches of government to stop requiring businesses to provide information on obsolete forms of physical media. The Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry (METI) is one of the first to switch. Kono’s staff has identified nearly 1,900 protocols in several government departments that still require floppy disks, CD-ROMs, and even (!) MiniDisks.
