The Music Frame is equipped with two woofers, two tweeters and two midrange drivers and offers Dolby Atmos sound. The company says that having the woofers fired from the back and the other drivers facing forward results in a clear, natural sound profile.
Samsung’s SpaceFit technology is used to calibrate the sound to the room you place the speakers in so that their “wide radial sound range” remains at its best. In addition, the Music Frame is compatible with the company’s Q-Symphony technology, which uses TV speakers as part of a home theater setup. You can also mount two of them next to your TV for a stereo pair, and the Frame is the ideal companion. Samsung says the Music Frame can also be used as rear speakers or a standalone subwoofer in the living room.
The Music Frame is also a smart speaker and offers access to Bixby and Alexa with spoken alert. Plus, it’s ready to be wall-mounted, or it can sit on a desk using the built-in stand. In addition, the Music Frame can be used as a standalone Bluetooth or Wi-Fi speaker. This connection enables wireless Dolby Atmos, Spotify Connect, Tidal Connect, Chromecast and AirPlay. Samsung’s Tap Sound feature lets you play anything on a compatible phone in Music Frame by gently tapping the device on the speaker.
During my brief demo at CES, I was pleasantly surprised by the sound quality of this speaker. It’s more powerful than I expected, with crisp, clear highs and mids. Bass was more subdued, but that could be due to the noise of the crowded demo area, so I’ll pass judgment there. I was also only able to hear selected music tracks, not the speaker being powered by the TV.
As part of the pre-order process, Samsung is offering a $50 credit on its site if you order there before April 11.
