Meta has announced several updates coming to Facebook these days company’s IRL event in Austin. It tests the Explore tab and adds a new video tab.
Let’s start with the Explore tab. If you’ve ever browsed Instagram, you probably know how it works. This tab will house “a variety of content tailored to your interests.”
Meta says the algorithm is designed to serve up “content that not only entertains, but also helps you dig deeper into your interests.” I hope I’ve gotten nothing but content about wild transition strategies here . Anyway, the new Discover tab is still in testing, so it may be a while before it becomes widespread.
The video tab is also getting a big update to accommodate Reels. All video content on Facebook will now be placed behind this tab. The content will be streamed in a full-screen video player, allowing users to “seamlessly watch the best short, long-form and live videos in one experience.”
The updated video tab is rolling out to users “in the coming weeks.” This is definitely a takeover attempt by the Meta because the announcement was accompanied by statistics showing that young adults spend about 60 percent of their time on Facebook watching videos and clips.
I have news for you, Meta. My teenage father also spends all his time watching videos and clips on Facebook. So we all will benefit from this extended video tab.
