Logitech reveals a 3D stylus for Meta Quest headsets

Logitech introduced mixed reality style for Meta Quest headphones. The MX Compound designed to help users create more accurate designs and illustrations. $130 stylus compatible with Quest 2 and Quest 3 headsets (but interestingly Not Quest Pro), will be presented in September.

The MX Ink will come with two spare tips, one thin and one wide, which you pair using the Meta Quest App. You’ll be able to adjust factors like pressure curves and double tap time directly from the Meta Settings.

Logitech says you’ll be able to easily switch between MX Ink and Quest controllers, and it’s the first third-party tracking peripheral that Quest headsets officially support. Logitech says you’ll be able to write and design on 2D physical surfaces, then switch to 3D space and back again as needed, while the pressure-sensitive tip and main button will enable “high-fidelity creativity.” Six degrees of freedom spatial tracking should help with this.

According to Logitech, the MX Ink will run for up to seven hours on a single charge. You can charge it via USB-C or a separately available dock. The MX Mat accessory (a flat surface that Logitech describes as a “frictionless writing and drawing environment”) will also be available.

The stylus will be compatible with several Quest apps out of the box, including Gravity Sketch, PaintingVR, Arkio, Engage, OpenBrush, Gesture VR, and ShapesXR. whom DownloadVR notes that it will also work with Adobe Substance Modeler and Elucis desktop software via Quest Link or Air Link.

It’s interesting to see Meta beat Apple to the punch when it comes to offering stylus support in mixed reality headsets. Apple, of course, has both the Vision Pro and the Pencil on desktop devices. Information was provided by the company Tested a new version of Apple Pencil it works with Vision Pro, but it hasn’t seen the light of day yet.
