Crunchyroll announces first price hike since Funimation purchase

Crunchyroll, like many others other streaming services recently increases subscription prices. The anime streaming service has announced its first price increase since being acquired by Funimation in 2020. Subscribers in Argentina, Colombia, France, Portugal, the US and some additional countries will now have to pay $12 for the Mega Fan tier. From $10. Meanwhile, the Ultimate Fan tier will now be $1 more at $16 per month.

Both options give subscribers access to offline viewing and the Crunchyroll Game Vault, which includes a library of mobile games. The Mega Fan tier lets you stream to four devices at once, while the Ultimate Fan tier lets you stream to up to six. People who subscribe to the most expensive option also get a bag if they continue to pay for the service for 12 consecutive months. The Basic Fan Tier doesn’t come with the benefits of these two, but its price remains unchanged at $8 per month. Unfortunately, those who have not yet decided whether to pay for the subscription can now only try the service for seven days instead of the previous 14 days. But if they don’t mind watching their anime with ads, they can still watch over 1,000 hours of content for free.

Sony’s Funimation bought Crunchyroll from WarnerMedia for $1.175 billion in 2020, but they failed to complete their transformation into a single anime subscription service under the latter’s name. Funimation didn’t close its old application and website until April 2 of this year, after moving existing titles to Crunchyroll.
