John Lewis, the high-end department store chain in the UK, has shortlisted the new Kindle that no one else has. This is the upcoming 12th generation Kindle Amazon has yet to make an announcement, though Lewis’ information has been leaked several times before he prematurely published a listing for it. Although that list is no longer live, Good Reader and The Verge they were able to take screenshots and record the device’s specifications. With a 6-inch 300 ppi display and 16GB of storage, Amazon called the 12th generation mainstream Kindle the “lightest and most compact” it has ever designed, in the retailer’s description.
Its front light is 25 percent brighter at the maximum setting than previous versions and has a higher contrast ratio, but you still won’t be able to make the light cooler or warmer like you can on more expensive Kindles. The device will allow you to turn pages faster than previous Kindles and has a new dark mode feature that inverts the colors of the e-ink screen. The Verge. If you prefer to listen to your books, you can turn on Audible on your new Kindle and connect your headphones or speakers to it via Bluetooth as well.
In addition to the basic 12th generation Kindle, John Lewis has also listed a Kids Edition version. It’s the same device, except it ships in a colorful box and comes with a free six-month subscription to Amazon Kids+. Previous Kids Edition Kindles came with a free one-year membership to the subscription service, but after half a year you’ll have to pay $6 a month for continued access to select books, videos and games for kids. As for the 12th generation Kindle itself, the John Lewis listing said it will set you back £95 ($124), or about £10 more than the previous version. Meanwhile, the Kids Edition will cost you a bit more, as the retailer has listed it at £115 ($150).
