A new space suit Inspired by Frank Herbert, it was developed by scientists at Weill Cornell Medicine and Cornell University. Dunecould make spacewalks longer and less disgusting by recycling expelled urine in a special filtration bag.
The traditional NASA spacesuit design has been around since the 1970s and only has an absorbent polymer to catch astronauts’ urine. This outdated waste system also caused hygiene and medical problems for astronauts, such as urinary tract infections (UTIs) and gastrointestinal problems. It’s not just for sci-fi whimsy.
The new ‘stolcosmos’ have a “vacuum-based external catheter leading to a combined forward-reverse osmosis unit” that astronauts carry on their backs. The suits were designed for future NASA space missions, including the Artemis II and Artemis III missions. However, NASA has not yet approved the spacesuit or its technology.

They say the NDA protects employees from speaking out about security risks.
Whistleblowers wrote to the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC), alleging that OpenAI employees were forced to sign “illegal restrictive” agreements that prevent them from speaking out about the potential harms of the company’s technology. The whistleblowers are asking the SEC to “take swift and aggressive action” to enforce the rules they say OpenAI violated. The allegations include forcing employees to sign agreements “not to submit disclosures of securities violations to the SEC” and requiring employees to obtain company approval before disclosing confidential information to authorities. The letter also states that OpenAI’s contracts require employees to “waive congressionally mandated compensation to encourage whistleblowers and provide financial assistance to whistleblowers.”
