AT&T and Verizon customers were unable to call contacts on other operators for several hours on June 4. According to people’s reports on Downdetector, the problem started around 11:00 AM ET for both carriers and peaked around 5:00 AM ET. Thousands of subscribers were affected. Most of the reports came from New York, Chicago, Philadelphia, Pittsburgh, Indianapolis and Cleveland. Very few T-Mobile and Wireless Cricket users also reported connectivity issues.
The Federal Communications Commission tried to allay people’s concerns and announced knew that subscribers from many states “couldn’t make wireless calls.” He also said that the problem is “currently under investigation”. Both after 7:00 PM ET Verizon and AT&T made statements denying that they experienced nationwide interruptions. Both admitted their customers had trouble calling or texting people on other carriers, Verizon said Gizmodo Reports of the outage came from people trying to call AT&T subscribers, but no one claimed responsibility. The root cause of the problem is still unknown. This was reported by AT&T CNNalthough the 911 call went through despite the disconnect.

An hour later, AT&T announced that the problem had been resolved. The company said it was working with “another carrier” to find a solution. It did not name the other carrier, but it was likely Verizon, as most of the affected customers were subscribers to the two companies. AT&T in February experienced A massive outage affected more than 70,000 subscribers’ mobile service and data connections, with customers reporting they were unable to reach 911.
