A surprise guest came to Instagram. Meta AI, the company’s artificial intelligence-powered chatbot, can answer questions, write poetry, and create images with a simple text request. You have it in your DMs. Meta has warned that Meta AI is coming, and has spent the last few months adding chatbots to products like Facebook Messenger and WhatsApp. We all knew Instagram would be next.
“Our generative AI experiences are in various stages of development, and we are openly testing a number of them with limited capabilities,” a Meta spokesperson told Engadget. For some of us at Engadget, the feature appeared in Instagram’s Direct Messaging box.
We can tap it to start a conversation with the Meta AI, where it can give definitions of words, suggest titles, and … create pictures of dogs on skateboards.
