There’s a huge gap between serious racers like Gran Turismo and arcade-style stuff like Mario Kart. it is there enters. It’s an upgraded version of Sony’s popular racing game, intended “for those new to Gran Turismo.” The free-to-play title launches on December 6 for both PS4 and PS5.
Sony promises that this game is perfect for anyone “between the ages of 7 and 77”. Not sure what my 78 year old dad would have to say about that, but whatever. There’s a trailer to help people get the gist, showcasing a selection of real-world vehicles and graphics that aren’t too far removed from the base games. It looks like a lot of fun.
All told, there are 18 cars to choose from and three tracks to race around. In comparison, Includes more than 400 cars and about 40 special tracks. It’s also a full-priced game, though it will be on sale for the holidays My First Gran Turismo free as a bird.
The cars in this kid-friendly version have Mario Kart-style graphics to show off the different features, and there’s a cool game mode called Music Rally. It forces players to race to the beat of the song. Other modes include time trials and license tests.
Finally, there’s PSVR 2 support for PS5, bringing the whole experience into virtual reality. Racing in VR is great fun, but remember to take plenty of breaks to avoid the dreaded nausea fairy.
The launch is part of PlayStation’s wider 30th anniversary celebrations. Company released some retro looking gearsold in short order and digital themes from past console iterations.
