T-Mobile a deal worth about $4.4 billion. That means T-Mobile will own all of US Cellular’s stores, some of its spectrum assets, and some of its customers. The deal includes a combination of cash and up to $2 billion in debt . The companies expect to complete the acquisition by mid-2025, although the deal is subject to regulatory approval.
All told, T-Mobile will take about 30 percent of US Cellular’s wireless spectrum, which it hopes to use to improve coverage in rural areas and offer better connectivity to current US Mobile customers nationwide. Current customers will be able to keep their plan or switch to a similar T-Mobile contract.
US Cellular will retain 70 percent of its wireless spectrum and towers. In addition, it will lease approximately 2,100 additional tower spaces to T-Mobile. “The decisions we are announcing today are in the best interests of our customers and shareholders. T-Mobile is the right partner for our wireless operations,” said Laurent Terivel, CEO of US Cellular.
This is the latest consolidation move by T-Mobile. The company recently bought , purchasing parent company Ka’ena Corporation for approximately $1.35 billion. T-Mobile It returns in 2020. It’s basically Pac-Man, but instead of dots, it covers smaller mobile operators.
