Nintendo apparently had enough X (Twitter) API fees. Starting June 10, 2024, it will no longer be possible to post screenshots and videos from Nintendo Switch’s Album to X (formerly Twitter) or send friend requests to social media users via the Friend Suggestions feature.

Wired first informed Access to the cheapest Enterprise API plan for Dumpster Fire, formerly known as Twitter last year, starts at $42,000 per month. Higher levels can cost between $125,000 and $210,000 per month. Microsoft led the charge In April 2023, when Xbox said it was abandoning Musk’s API plan, Sony held its nose and it stopped until November.
$42,000 (or more) a month might not sound like much to these well-heeled mega-corporations, but apparently even they have their limits. After all, a quick screen share to social channels is a marketing feature from a corporate perspective. If their accountants look at the analytics, compare them to Musk’s fees, and see that it doesn’t work, they’ll do what for-profits do and cut overhead. But hey, at least X’s “partnership with Nintendo remains strong.”
Of course, you can still transfer screenshots to Musk’s hellscape; now there are just extra steps. You can Send Switch album photos wirelessly to your phone or transfer them to your computer using a USB cable, then place them manually. Nintendo says that integrated Facebook sharing is still active, but warns that it may be discontinued later.
