Marvel’s making an ‘interactive story’ based on the What If…? show for Apple Vision Pro

As someone who sincerely hates real reality, virtual reality is very appealing to me. But I’m not that keen on 100 hour AAA games or . I’m into short interactive experiences that can’t be had anywhere else. The good news for me? Apple acquires Vision Pro pretty cool mixed reality “interactive story” This could herald the evolution of a new type of entertainment that draws people directly into their favorite shows or movies.

George Lucas-built Marvel and Industrial Light & Magic just announced the Apple Vision Pro headset. Suddenly…?, completed its second season. It’s going to be an hour-long experience that takes advantage of all the technology that goes into Apple’s expensive headphones, including this perfect transition.

The story is being kept under wraps, but you won’t be playing as The Watcher, that much is clear. The blurb says that players will “learn the mystical arts,” which Dr. Reminds me of Strange. The companies also promise that “fans will step into breathtaking environments that place them in new and iconic MCU locations.” Does this mean we can actually order shawarma with Tony Stark and the gang?

Now, I haven’t played the demo of this, but I have and there are many similar names and I absolutely love them. It just seems like a natural evolution for both games and TV to come together. Give the player the illusion of freedom, but keep them mostly on rails and call it a day.

Director Dave Bushore agrees, calling the title “the next evolution in how we tell our stories,” and that it’s “a vision I’ve been waiting for my whole life.” Bushore doesn’t have many directing credits, but he was director of interactive marketing Iron man 3, Captain America: The Winter Soldier and Shangqi and the Legend of the Ten Rings, among other MCU films. It was written by David Dong and Phil McCarty, best known for their short film adaptation of the David Sedaris essay. There are some heavy hitters on the EP side of things, there are people involved with them Miracles and signing up for a mixed reality project.

Marvel has not announced any actors will be returning to reprise their roles, but Jeffrey Wright as The Watcher appears to be a given. For those who don’t know, Suddenly…? is an anthology series that explores parallel universes and how things in the MCU could be shaken up if something happened a little differently. The game/experience will be exclusive to Apple Vision Pro and is coming “soon”.

This is not enough , but come on, this is a great sign of things to come. Who wouldn’t want to “play” an episode The Mandalorian or something similar?
