Instagram finally lets you edit DMs

Instagram launched direct messaging tools back in 2013, but there wasn’t a way to edit them after the fact. Today it changes. Meta has just rolled out a software update for its Instagram app with one major caveat. You only have 15 minutes to make any changes.

Here’s how it works. After sending a direct message and realizing you made a huge mistake by “accidentally” declaring your love for an old college friend, hold the message sent. This will create a drop down menu. Search for “Edit” and make the necessary changes. As long as you get there within 15 minutes, no one will be the wiser.

That’s not the only change to DMs found with today’s update. You can also add your favorite direct message to the feed, which is useful during ongoing conversations. This can be done through standard one-on-one chats and group chats. Just hold the chat icon, look for the drop-down menu, and click “pin” to move.

The update also makes it easier to turn read receipts on and off depending on personal preferences. The rest of today’s new features are cosmetic. There are new DM themes and some include unique animations. Finally, the update introduces a way to save your favorite stickers in DMs for easy access. Just hold onto the sticker and it will be there when you want it.

Meta is constantly changing on Instagram. In January, it began testing a feature that lets users only close friends can see. The program was acquired at the end of last year
