Apple has announced an update to the ever-popular MacBook Air series just a month later Starts the Vision Pro headset. Big package here? The new MacBook Air is powered by the company’s proprietary M3 chipset. This chip was previously reserved for more powerful MacBook Pro line and the latest iMac models, and it’s coming to the new 13- and 15-inch MacBook Air models.
The M3 chip is significantly more powerful than its predecessor shows the benchmark tests a performance increase of about 17 percent on single-core tasks and 21 percent on multi-core tasks. That carries over to GPU performance, with about a 15 percent improvement over the M2.
In other words, the line between MacBook Air and Pro continues to blur. Gone are the days when Air was only used for web surfing. (However, it should be noted that the new Air has the standard M3 chip, not the M3 Pro or Max).
Other than the new chip, it’s still a MacBook Air. It seems essentially the same as the 2022 model, with the same gorgeous 13.6-inch screen and surprisingly solid four-speaker setup. We called the M2 version two years ago “Apple’s near-perfect Mac” and “the ideal ultraportable.” Similarly, the 15-inch model is essentially the same as Apple was introduced last summerApart from the M3 upgrade.
The new MBAs come with a relatively modest 8 gigs of RAM, but these aren’t Apple’s power user laptops. They… just have a very powerful chip. As before, both computers have a maximum of 24 GB of RAM and 2 TB of storage. As Apple notes, there should be new benefits, including support for up to two external displays when the laptop is connected. Also included in the 2024 Air family of laptops is the Wi-Fi 6E.
The 13-inch M3 MacBook Air starts at $1,099, while the 15-inch model starts at $1,299. Apple is also saying goodbye to the M1 MacBook Air, while the M2 13-inch model will remain available for $999.
