Minecraft movie has released its first full-length trailer today, expanding on the blocky world hinted at by . released in September. During the game Minecraft giving players only the barest sense of direction, there will be a traditional driving story Minecraft movie.
Jack Black gives a voiceover of what his character is like, Minecraft mascot and stock avatar Steve was drawn to the mines as a child and discovered the Overworld. He teams up with four other people from the real world as we know them to protect the Overworld from the “dark forces” with their ingenuity and creativity. It all sounds like pretty standard fare for a video game movie – a group of misfits come together and learn the power of friendship. It’s not clear if their enemies will be the villains from Holland or Son, because while those are painful, they’re not interested in world domination.
But I’m not here for a clever, compelling plot. The trailer is a crazy reel of familiar in-game experiences, and that’s what I want. Taming a monster with a bone, crafting a redstone machine to fry chicken, and nighttime comes faster than you’d like. The team certainly did their homework on that front. The art style they chose doesn’t speak to me, but I’m also willing to admit some bias after spending hundreds of hours watching the original source material. I’m also not sure if they’ll stick the landing with humor and emotion, or if they’ll fall flat like a juiced elytra. When will we find out? Minecraft movie Released on April 5, 2025.
