Sony it will run a beta test for cloud streaming on its own PlayStation Portal gaming hardware. The feature will start rolling out in an update today, with Europe starting on Wednesday. Only PlayStation Plus Premium members will be able to access cloud streaming during the beta test, but while it took a year to get here, it’s a hopeful sign that Sony is finally working on the feature. Adding cloud gaming to Portal addresses one of our biggest criticisms of this handheld device that does not have a clear target audience.
Over 120 games from the PS5 Plus Game Catalog will be available in beta testing. This includes a number of games including Diving Dave, Nightmare of Tsushima, Marvel’s Spider-Man: Miles Morales, Monster Hunter Rise and Ratchet & Clank: Rift Apart. No games from PlayStation 4 or PlayStation 3 will be supported during the beta, but these games will be added to the list as the feature becomes more widely available.
Portal owners may also like to know that this update adds several fixes for audio and volume control. But let’s be honest, cloud gaming is really the highlight.
