Amazon sunsets Freevee platform for ad-supported streaming video


Amazon is shutting down its free ad-supported video service called Freevee. This platform was home to more original programming From the Prime Video list. Freevee will be phased out in the coming weeks and its content will be available as part of Prime Video. The ad-supported tier of Prime Video is included as part of Amazon’s Prime membership for $15 per month.

“To provide a simpler browsing experience for customers, we’ve decided to drop the Freevee brand,” an Amazon spokesperson said. . “There will be no changes to the content available to Prime members, and a wide range of free-to-air content will still be available to non-Prime members, including select originals from Amazon MGM Studios, a variety of licensed movies and series, and an extensive library of FAST channels – all on Prime Video- also exists.”

The free-to-view platform has gone through several rebrands since its initial launch as IMDb Freedive in January 2019. Final phase as Freevee in April 2022.
