Jarvis is real. Google’s new artificial intelligence prototype was accidentally released to the public via the Chrome Web Store. This isn’t some AI assistant that can tell you the weather or remind you of doctor’s appointments. reported that the store page describes the Jarvis prototype as a “helpful companion that navigates the web for you” through web browsers to perform common tasks like buying groceries, booking flights and researching topics.
In other words, Google’s new AI system is capable of directing a computer to perform these simple tasks without human input. The prototype seen in Google’s extension store was not fully operational. The journalist tried to use Jarvis, but access permissions prevented the app from performing any functions.
Google took down Jarvis’ store page before noon . Jarvis will compete with Anthropic and similar outfits started its public beta phase last month. Anthropic’s AI assistant can do more than just basic functions through a web browser. Claude can take over the computer to enter text, activate buttons, and move the cursor.
