Roblox is implementing new safety policies to better protect young users of the platform. we learned last month that changes are in the works for the game and a post More details about these rules are available today on the Roblox developer forum. The big deal is that most of Roblox’s content won’t be available to players under 13.
The first part of the new Roblox policy is that starting December 3rd, users under the age of 13 will not be able to play, search or discover any unrated experiences on the platform. However, they can still view the information on the experience details page via a direct link. As such, Roblox requires creators to confirm that information on their experience detail pages — such as thumbnails, titles, and descriptions — meets the company’s criteria for all ages or ages 9 and up.
The second part of the policy will restrict access to Roblox’s Social Hangouts and Freeform User Creation experiences to users over the age of 13. This rule will come into force on November 18.
Roblox has a difficult history when it comes to safety for young and teenage users. At least since 2018 two dozen people Arrested under US policy on charges of kidnapping or exploiting child victims who met through Roblox.
