Some of the biggest names in Hollywood, literature and music have warned the AI industry. It says more than 10,500 artists have signed up objects to the “unlicensed use” of artists’ work by AI developers to train their models.
“The unlicensed use of creative works to teach creative artificial intelligence is a fundamental, unfair threat to the livelihoods of the people behind those works and should not be allowed,” the one-sentence letter said.
The letter includes endorsements from some of the biggest names in the film, television, music and publishing industries. Some of the more famous signings include actors Julianne Moore, Rosario Dawson, Kevin Bacon and F. Murray Abraham, as well as former actors. Saturday Night Live star Kate McKinnon, author James Patterson and Radiohead frontman Thom Yorke.
Unauthorized use of their work to train AI models has been a major area of concern among creatives. The unity and They recently staged industry-wide strikes demanding better protection of their jobs and livelihoods against the use of artificial intelligence in their studio projects.
There are currently several lawsuits in the courts accusing some AI developers of using copyrighted content without permission or proper compensation.
