Marjorie Taylor Greene Donald Trump has an idea for the first item on his second-term agenda: impeaching the Special Counsel Jack Smith.
“What Jack Smith did is completely illegal. He should be prosecuted,” Greene said appearance Thursday on Steve Bannon’s “War Room” podcast. “After winning on November 5th, Jack Smith must be tried.”
Smith’s office opened damn paperwork On Wednesday, he released some of the most extreme allegations and evidence of election interference against the former president. Smith has served as an independent special counsel since 2022, tasked with investigating Trump’s election interference scheme and the classified documents case, the latter of which was thrown out by Trump-appointed Judge Aileen Cannon.
Greene’s suggestion that Smith’s appointment was illegal was one Cannon used as grounds to throw out the case, though judges in other Trump cases, including D.C. Judge Tanya Chutkan, rejected the argument.
In the clip, Green also called for the prosecution of US Attorney Matthew Graves, who prosecuted those involved in the January 6 riots. Greene filed articles of impeachment against Graves last year.
The comments also signal a worrying attitude toward prosecutorial independence in a possible second Trump term. The revelations come as Trump details his plan to return to the White House plans to accommodate the faithful in an attempt to influence investigations.
Trump reported he has already experimented with the practice of weaponizing the Justice Department in his first term as president, directing it to investigate critics and wiretap reporters’ phones, and to threaten to fire opponents.
But the proposals in Project 2025 and Trump’s own statements suggest that the nominee will have an unprecedentedly vocal role in the Justice Department, filling the agency with employees more willing to go than the old guard of its first era. after political opponents.
