Disney has announced a new rule to limit the sharing of passwords between streaming subscribers, following plans originally shared. last month in the earnings call. Today’s blog post the company explained that Disney+ is getting a Paid Sharing feature. For an additional $7 per month on Disney+ Basic or $10 per month on Disney+ Premium, the account holder can grant access to their plan to someone outside of their household, called an Additional Member. Paid Sharing is currently rolling out in the US, Canada, Costa Rica, Guatemala, Europe and Asia-Pacific.
With what’s to come price increases — $10 per month for Basic and $16 per month for Premium — The Extra Member route is still cheaper than buying a separate Disney+ plan. However, the Paid Sharing option comes with a few caveats. For starters, only one Additional Member is allowed per account. If your plan is part of a Disney Package, you don’t have access to the Extra Member feature at all. This is the case for any subscriber billed through Disney’s partners, meaning bundle customers are out of luck. The post says the restrictions apply “currently” but gives no indication whether the company is considering a policy change in the future.
