Perhaps the biggest change Monument Valley 3 is a presentation of sailing. Game director Jennifer Estaris told reporters that you’ll be able to move the boat in almost any direction, so “the game is no longer confined to geometric spaces.” In addition to unlocking cubes that transport the new protagonist Nur to different planes, Monument Valley 3 It’s largely about “deconstructing what we know,” Estaris said.
Naturally, these changes allow for fresh puzzles and visuals as players navigate seemingly impossible, MC Escher-esque architectural spaces. In line with this, Ustwo developed the art style with softer and more abstract shapes (you will be navigating rivers, after all). The result is something that looks very familiar but is like a hazy memory. Meanwhile, the soundtrack of the 18-piece orchestra can evoke some emotions.
While the original game was about forgiveness, its sequel was a coming-of-age tale, Monument Valley 3 focuses on themes of hope, unity and resilience. Nur is the apprentice of a lighthouse keeper, tasked with finding a new source of power before the light fades from the world forever. According to Ustwo marketing manager Jamie Wotton, this is “the most ambitious story” for a Monument Valley game to date.
All three Monument Valley games are standalone titles with their own stories. This means you will be able to jump right in Monument Valley 3 without playing the previous two entries. But there’s plenty of time to check them out (or revisit them) first. If you have a Netflix subscription, you won’t have to pay extra for these mobile gaming classics. There are no ads or in-app purchases in the company’s games.
Monument Valley Available to Netflix subscribers on iOS and Android starting today, the sequel will be available on October 29. Monument Valley 3 then on December 10th it will debut as a Netflix mobile exclusive.
Netflix announced some other mobile gaming news during Geeked Week. His (includes special weapons and ranked modes) will drop on September 24th. Subscribers will be able to play soon and on their mobile devices at no extra cost – the Netflix version of the latter will offer cross-play between iOS and Android.
Meanwhile, Netflix hour Squid Game: Released before that multiplayer tie-in game is coming later this year. Finally, there was a first look Bloodline: Rebel Moon GameBased on Zack Snyder’s Rebel Moon films. Exclusive co-op game from Netflix developer Super Evil Megacorp will debut in 2025.
