There is a US Consumer Product Safety Commission Amazon is responsible for unsafe or defective products sold by third-party retailers through its platform. The CPSC unanimously ruled that more than 400,000 products sold through the Fulfilled by Amazon program had a “significant product hazard” and that the tech giant was legally responsible for the recall. It also said that Amazon did not properly inform buyers about defective products and did not encourage buyers to return or destroy those products.
Today’s decision has been several years in the making with the CPSC In July 2021, he sued Amazon. The focus of this investigation was on malfunctioning carbon monoxide detectors, hair dryers that did not protect against electrocution, and children’s sleepwear that did not meet federal flammability standards. According to the decision and order issued by the agency, Amazon must provide plans to inform customers about these defective products and take steps to return or destroy them.

The Justice Department has taken similar action against eBay in recent months. In September 2023 after the environmentally hazardous materials were released for retail sale and in January 2024, the company paid for a DoJ settlement on pill press machines.
