If you are hoping for new colors HomePod mini, Apple just announced one. But there’s not much to get excited about. Company revealed Midnight color for the small speaker, replacing the Space Gray version that has been available since the debut of the mini. So yes, Apple has replaced the black HomePod mini with another black HomePod mini that looks so similar it’s hard to tell the difference. Even in the photo below, shadows are likely to cause some variation in color.
However, the material for the new color is different. Apple says the Midnight version is made with 100 percent recycled mesh fabric. The rest of the HomePod mini lineup, including the Space Gray option, has enclosures made from 90 percent recycled plastic. Everything else about the new option is the same as the existing speaker, from the edge-to-edge backlit touchpad to the smart home controls and decent sound quality.
Aside from the higher recycled content in the mesh cover, this gave Apple the opportunity to bring the HomePod mini’s color scheme up to date with some of its other products. The black color of the regular HomePod is now called Midnight. Moreover, when the iPhone 13 debuted, the company ditched Space Gray for midnight. It ported it to the Apple Watch, but not a wholesale change across all devices. For example, the iPhone 15 series has Black Titanium and regular black as its darkest shades.
The Midnight HomePod mini is now available to order from Apple. It will be available in the company’s stores and other retailers on July 17.
