ChatGPT is now available in many Volkswagen models

ChatGPT now available with many Volkswagen models, including all cars in the electric ID family, the new Golf, Tiguan and Passat. This integration is only in Europe for now, North America is coming soon.

What exactly does this mean? ChatGPT has been integrated into Volkswagen’s own voice assistant, IDA, to complete the service and add more features like Apple’s self-driving. . This means customers can better communicate with the car using natural language, allowing the assistant to “answer questions on a variety of topics”. IDA could already handle voice-controlled climate settings and navigation, but the addition of ChatGPT should make things a little smoother.

Volkswagen also says that the updated voice assistant can provide information on tourist attractions, report on football matches and help solve math problems. You know, all the stuff that regular ChatGPT is used for, just in one car. To that end, Volkswagen says drivers will never have to take their eyes off the road when using the service.

As for privacy, the company says that the request is only sent to the cloud, similar to how Apple Intelligence works, if IDA can’t handle it. The request is sent anonymously so that ChatGPT does not obtain any information about your vehicle. It can also be turned off completely via the settings area of the Volkswagen app.

We tested this feature a few months ago at CES and it came out . We found that the system doesn’t add much to the overall driving experience, but it can be a great tool for passengers. Although he struggled with topical inquiries like basketball scores, he told us a cute story about a dinosaur. In short, it should keep children busy during road trips.

ChatGPT integration is heading to the US in 2025 cars, with a global rollout coming shortly after. It’s also available in languages other than English, which is always a pleasant surprise. The system can handle Spanish, Czech and German.
