Meta makes the Threads API available to all developers

Meta is finally developing a Threads API to developers. The company has begun testing developer tools with several companies but now it opens the door for more creators and software developers.

For now, the Threads API functionality is somewhat limited. It allows third-party applications to post to Threads and to view and manage responses and interactions with their posts. So far, this has enabled Threads integration with social media management software such as Hootsuite and Sprout Social. The Threads API also enabled tech news aggregator Techmeme to automatically post to the platform.

Such tools are widely used by brands, marketers and power users who rely on more advanced analytics and other specialized capabilities. Interestingly, Meta also suggests that creators may be interested in using the new Threads API for their own “unique integrations” with the platform.

Meta Threads hasn’t said much about future plans for the API or whether it will support third-party client applications in this way. Before Elon Musk launched the service. The API may also play a final role in Meta’s interoperability plans though Meta Threads said its plans to work with decentralized platforms are still early days.
