After announcing several new Xbox Series X consoles, including a $600 special edition model, Microsoft is working on another console. “I think we should have a handheld,” Xbox boss Phil Spencer said in response to IGN’s question about portable gaming.
It’s a vague comment, but it certainly shows that the company considers all portable PC gaming devices out there as good as new. Rog Ally X From ASUS and certainly from Sony PlayStation Portal remote hand. Such a device would also make a lot of sense for the Xbox platform.
“The future for us in terms of gear is pretty awesome and what the team is doing around different form factors, different ways of playing,” he said. He then deferred further questions about the consoles to Xbox president Sarah Bond.
Spencer, when asked about it, speculated on the idea of a Sony-like internet or cloud-only facility. “I think it’s really important to be able to play local games,” he said.
This in no way confirms the development of such a device, and was in no way the correct occasion for such an announcement. “Today was about games… but we’ll have time to come out and talk more about the platform, and we can’t wait to bring it to you.”
