Former Activision studio Toys for Bob releasing its first game after breaking away as an independent entity. The company, which developed the latest entries in the Spyro the Dragon and Crash Bandicoot franchises, did not reveal any specific details about its upcoming release, other than to say that development is early and that the team is hard at work.
This is certainly a homecoming for the developer. Activision is owned by Microsoft, Toys for Bob is its… ex-grandson? Either way, it’s probably easy to get meetings and the like with a company you’ve worked with in the past. Also, the developer has a pretty stellar pedigree of Skylanders franchise and franchise creation. among others.
Toys for Bob After Microsoft implemented large-scale layoffs involving 86 employees, more than half of its workforce. At the time, the company said the move to indie would allow it to return to a “small and nimble studio.” This sentiment harkens back to the early days of the 1980s and 1990s, when it made games like Toys for Bob.
