Google Password Manager now allows limited password sharing with family members, Android Authority reported. “With this new feature, you can now securely share your passwords with your family group in Google Password Manager. When you share a password, your family members will receive a copy of it in Google Password Manager, ready to use,” Google wrote in a supporting document.
Google announced this feature for the first time February 2024 As part of Safer Internet Day, however, it is finally rolling out this feature as part of Google Play Services update v24.20 in May 2024. Password sharing is strictly limited to family group members, so you must create a password and add any members to use it.
If you have a family group, a “share” button should appear as an option in Google Password Manager. However, Android Authority noted that this feature may not yet be available in the desktop version of Chrome.
Previously, Google wrote about potential examples of its use, such as “two members of the same family coordinate with daycare through one account, or a child allows a parent to access school assignments.”
