The DJI Mini 4K is a $299 drone aimed at beginners

DJI’s latest product is another Mini drone. It can capture 4K video at 30 frames per second and 60 frames per second at 2.7K resolution, with a video bitrate increased to 100 Mbps, which should provide higher quality video in both settings. While these features may not be exciting, the price may be.

Not to be confused with the Mini Pro series, which costs several hundred dollars more, the $299 Mini 4K weighs less than 249 grams, is foldable, and does not require FAA registration.

The specs won’t push the Mini series forward, but they cover all the essentials for budding drone pilots, including 2x digital zoom, a 3-axis gimbal and electric image stabilization while recording in 4K. DJI says it can transmit 1080p video up to 10 km. Again, it has Level 5 wind resistance, and it can fly for up to 31 minutes (or up to 93 minutes with DJI’s $449 Fly More package).

The Mini 4K will also include features such as one-touch actions and support for spiral, drone and panoramic shots. If you’re a complete novice, DJI’s companion app has flight lessons and one-touch takeoff and landing.

Much of this will sound familiar to anyone who has followed DJI’s ever-growing drone line over the last 10 years, but it’s probably not aimed at you — it’s for newcomers. The Mini 4K is priced significantly lower than the Mini Pro iterations, and is actually cheaper than DJI’s other Mini drones. It’s available to order now for $299 / £269.
