Social network Threads will start showing live sports results, starting with NBA basketball. Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg announced the initiative and wrote that he will add more leagues in the near future.
Here’s how it works. Just search for teams during the game and you’ll see the latest scores. If the game is over, the quest will bring up the final score. You can also find out when the game will start by searching for it in advance. It’s obviously similar to how X did things when the platform started It shows live sports scores in 2017when It was called Twitter.
Each score is accompanied by the logos of the two teams. Tapping on these logos directs users to a conversation about that team. Threads, along with Instagram, decided recently stop recommending political contentso highlighting sports is a decent way to capture the “real-time” vibe of a hip and happening social network.
To that end, Instagram CEO Adam Mosseri sighed, NBA deadly courtship has been calling for months community of basketball fans “A great example of what we hope to see” in the app at Threads. A Threads spokesperson told Engadget that “basketball has become one of the most popular topics” and that “NBA Threads has become one of the most active sports communities in the app.”
This makes sense because NBA discourse is also big on X. NBA Twitter, as it’s still called in sports media, manages coverage regularly and conversation about the professional basketball league. Meta seems to be hoping to eliminate some of that effect. Apple recently . The first-party Sports iPhone app offers real-time stats for a number of major leagues, including the NBA, and throws live scoring data on the lock screen during the game.
Themes are everywhere this week. The platform presented a new algorithm tuning feature works by swiping left and right on posts and has announced a beta test that allows users to share content with Mastodon and other fedivers services. The live scores feature is also in testing.
