Humanoid Origin will be closed. The a three-year-old indie game studioRun by former BioWare GM and Mass Effect creator Casey Hudson, it is the latest victim in a brutal stretch for game developers and other industry professionals.
on LinkedIn post Humanoid Origin, which announced its closure, said its efforts to protect its team from the industry’s ills had failed. “An unexpected lack of funding has prevented us from continuing operations,” the studio wrote.
Hudson created the studio (then called Humanoid Studios) in 2021 when hiring in the industry picked up steam after the lifting of the COVID lockdowns. He described the startup as a means of “unlocking the creative freedom of developers” by “bringing innovation and craftsmanship to gamers through an entirely new IP.” His website noted content built around interactive worlds, characters and stories, while also embracing innovation that “feels magical.”
The following year, the studio said it was working on a multi-platform AAA game “set in an entirely new sci-fi universe.” IGN noted on Monday that Humanoid Origin hired in May of this year.
“We are deeply saddened that we will not be able to bring our new sci-fi universe to a close,” the studio wrote today. “Our main concern right now is our team and we are committed to supporting them in their transition to their new job.”
