Threads is making more changes to address longstanding user complaints. This time the company is tested Improvements to search and trending topics are included in what Adam Mosser describes as “long overdue improvements.”
In search, Threads is testing the ability to search for posts within specific date ranges and account-specific searches. The changes are similar to some of X’s advanced search capabilities and could make it easier for users to search for a specific post they want to revisit. The lack of advanced search in Threads has long been frustrating, and until now the most reliable way to search for a specific Threads post was to use Google.
Threads is also experimenting with AI-powered summaries for “trending now” topics, giving US users several popular topics on the platform. The app will also show an “expanded set” of up to 15 trends (currently Threads only shows five trends at a time). The changes are a bit more like how X handles trends, which it does sometimes summarized With “Grok” AI feature. (Grok has a somewhat mixed track record when it comes to this precisionhowever.) It’s unclear how Meta plans to handle these summaries, though the company already uses Meta AI to aggregate Facebook comments and discussions in groups.
The new tests are the latest in a series of updates from Threads. Last week Meta also announced a test special feedswhich formalized just five days later and improvements for users algorithmic feeds. These changes also coincide with a big growth spurt for Threads competitor Bluesky. Decentralized service has grown even more 20 million There are a few days when the number of users and growth competes with Threads daily registration numbers.
