2025 could be a busy year for Amazon. reports that Amazon will be “investigated” by the European Union (EU) for violating the Digital Markets Act (DMA) by allegedly promoting and offering its products ahead of others on its online store, according to its sources.
The decision to launch an investigation will be made by the new EU antitrust chief, Teresa Ribera. His term of office will take place next month who resigned after serving two terms.
Amazon denies violating DMA. Antimonopoly regulators of the EU have started an investigation in this regard in March regarding issues such as fees and preferential presentation of its apps in its online stores. The European Commission has also hinted that it could investigate Amazon’s business practices under the new laws.
It came into force last year and, according to the EU’s website, sets criteria for large online platforms to “behave too far online and leave room for competition”. The guidelines prevent big tech companies like Amazon from giving preferential treatment to their products and services on their platforms.
