At the Disney APAC Content Showcase in Singapore yesterday, the company unveiled Volume 3. . This anthology of nine short animations from nine different anime studios will be released next year. In the tradition of previous volumes, each studio is given considerable creative freedom and will likely produce shorts with distinct art styles that fans will instantly recognize.
Based on the Star Wars website we can immediately see four returning studios: Kamikaze Douga, Kinema citrus Co., Production IG and TRIGGER. These studios are responsible for anime adaptations JoJo’s Bizarre Adventure, Made in Abyss, Haikyuu!! and Kill la Killrespectively.
To improve the variety of styles, Disney invited five new studios to create the remaining shorts. They are ANIMA (in collaboration with Kamikaze Douga), David Production, Polygon Pictures, Project Studio Q and WIT Studio.
ANIMA is an animation studio specializing in 3D CG films, and you may recognize it as the studio behind the short footage. Xenoblade 3certain Fire Emblem Heroes movies and Pokemon Merge. David Production cartoon Fire Force and Undead Unluckamong many other anime. Some of them Star Wars: The Clone Wars episodes and Tron: Rebellion It was the work of Polygon Pictures.
Project Studio Q is a lesser known name, but is responsible for some of the 3D animations DARLING in the FRANXX episodes. As for WIT Studio, it Spy x Family and Attack on Titan (first three seasons) fame.
With such a stacked studio roster, Disney spares no expense on this anthology. The wait may be long, but volumes 1 and 2 are still available on Disney+.
