The 2024 Game Awards nominees have just been announced, and a wide mix of 96 different games, teams, and individuals have gotten the nod in a number of categories. As usual, a lot of people are going to be upset about what’s being cut and what’s not.
– the second part Final fantasy 7 remake trilogy – and absolutely beautiful lead with seven nominations each. a fantasy JRPG Personality 5 team, while the excellent poker-esque roguelike, is right behind with six heads and Silent Hill 2 The remake has all five.
save for Silent Hill 2all of which have been shortlisted for the Game of the Year award. The other two are plaintiffs Black Myth: Wukong and Elden Ring: Shade of Erdtree. The latter is an (admittedly huge) expansion for the event’s 2022 GOTY winner, although the DLC’s inclusion in the best category this year may be debatable to some.
According to the ceremony “Expansion packs, new game seasons, DLCs, remakes and remasters are eligible in all categories if the jury deems the new creative and technical work worthy of a nomination. Factors such as the novelty of the content and its price/value should be considered.” A the jury Nominees are identified by more than 100 media and influencers from around the world.
PlayStation received more nominations than any other publisher this year with 16. Square Enix and Xbox each took 12 places, while Sega took 11. Bandai Namco received seven awards, while Nintendo received six.
It’s always great to see a bunch of great, decent indie games being recognized. This is perhaps not too surprising Balatro they got so many nominations (many of the Engadget crew still can’t let this game go), but it’s nice to see , , , UFO 50 and some also landing. Meanwhile, the Best Adaptation nominees hidden, Knuckles as Dragon: Yakuza and Tomb Raider: The Legend of Lara Croft.
Public voting is now open for all categories . Nominees for the Player’s Voice award, voted entirely by fans, will be announced on December 2. The Game Awards 2024 ceremony will take place on December 12, though many people will be watching the big trailers and game announcements rather than finding out about the award winners. .
