Waymo has announced the expanded availability of its driverless rideshare service Throughout Los Angeles. That’s right. Waymo One is now available to all customers anywhere in the 80 square miles of LA County. The company has reduced the waiting list for area residents. Now Los Angeles residents will experience sitting in endless traffic with a series of cameras and navigation algorithms instead of a human.
This expanded service starts today, and it offers “fully autonomous rides” at any time of the day or night. Let’s listen to it on a drunken night with an algorithm. Waymo also says it will expand the service area in the future. After all, Los Angeles is made up of five counties.
It offers self-driving rides to LA customers for a whilebut with a mandatory waiting list. Waymo One started small in San Francisco and Phoenix before announcing similar expansions. Service Coming to Austin and Atlanta in the near future.
All told, the company said more than 300,000 Los Angeles residents have joined a waiting list for the service, and Waymo One has completed “hundreds of thousands of paid trips across the city.” Waymo says these self-driving rides are also highly rated, with an average rating of 4.7 stars out of five. A recent survey showed that 98 percent of customers were satisfied with the service.
