We’re still officially in “teaser trailer” territory for the new season of Squid Game, but a lot of interesting details have been released in the second season finale.
A new trailer takes us deeper into the games as Seong Gi-hun, played by Lee Jung-jae, returns to the island, presumably to knock out the rich tyrants and Frontman from within the tournament. Seong is back as a player (the 456th player again) and at least two plays from last season will be part of the new game, including the “Green Light” and the wavering cookie-cutter challenge. But this time, they have an experienced participant in the sea of green, bloody jumpsuits who can tell them how to avoid the traps (if Mirror Bridge returns, figuratively and literally).
Seong seems to be on a personal crusade to save the last batch of players who have no idea about the games and its very high stakes. Unlike last season, Seong is not smiling when taking the official competition photo. The new trailer also features a passionate Seong trying to convince a new group of players to vote to leave the island with their lives still intact.
Next season Squid Game It lands on Netflix the day after Christmas, but it still can’t come soon enough for me.
