Google CEO Sundar Pichai revealed on the company’s earnings call that artificial intelligence now generates more than a quarter of the new code for its products. . In other words, AI tools are already having an absolutely massive impact on software development.
Human programmers controlling computer-generated code is one thing, Pichai said. The CEO noted that coding with artificial intelligence helps “increase productivity and efficiency,” enabling engineers to “do more and move faster.”

This brings us to the angry elephant in the room. As AI continues to absorb coding tasks, human expertise begins to diminish. This can ultimately lead to a reduced knowledge base where people don’t know how to correct errors created by AI algorithms, which in turn are created by other AI algorithms. We could be looking at a state of confusion where it is almost impossible to detect errors between generations of AI code. Fun times!
