In a new video captured Boston Dynamics’ humanoid robot Atlas can be seen working autonomously in the demo space, sorting engine parts through numbered bins. The company claims that Atlas doesn’t need to be controlled by humans to work.
According to the video description, Atlas uses machine learning to detect and work around changes in the environment. It also has a “specialized retention policy” to help keep objects firmly in place, and continuously evaluates the state of what it’s holding. After getting some junk to move between pieces, Atlas will start without set moves, choosing to complete tasks independently.
In contrast, despite their claims of autonomy, they were said to receive human assistance from afar. The Optimus robots were at the live event, and when asked, answered that they were being helped.
The video shows the Atlas engine parts being sorted and transported to designated locations. It works well, transporting them very awkwardly. After placing a part in the bin, the robot will repeat the process for other parts.
Atlas has undergone many changes since 2013, including for After 11 years of testing. The Old Atlas and the current Atlas differ sharply from each other. Watch the video below to see for yourself.
