Apple’s new iMac it is here. The 2024 model hasn’t changed much on the outside (except for the new color schemes), but it’s now updated with the latest Apple silicon. The new model has the same display and colorful design as the previous models, although there is a new nano-textured glass option. The M4 chip inside gives it a boost in speed and a more powerful neural engine for the new one Apple Intelligence features macOS Sequoia.
Apple says the M4 inside the new iMac makes the computer 1.7x faster for everyday productivity, and up to 2.1x faster for more demanding tasks (ie gaming and photo editing) than the M1-powered model. The new iMac now starts with 16GB of RAM, but you can expand it to 24GB at more expensive levels. Its storage options are durable, too: The base model has 256GB, 512GB, or 1TB configuration options.
The M4 iMac features the same aluminum unibody design found in every iMac for the past three years and a 24-inch 4.5K Retina display. However, there are fun new colors to choose from. The new iMac is available in green, yellow, orange, pink, purple and blue, as well as silver.
Along with the new iMac, Apple has finally updated its desktop accessories to ditch the old Lightning standard. With the new Magic Keyboard, Magic Trackpad and Magic Mouse, the company has switched to USB-C. These are available in colors to match the look of the iMac.
The M4 iMac will be available on November 8 for the same price as its predecessor at $1,299. Pre-orders start today.
