Playtonic Games’ ode to 90s 3D platformers comes to modern consoles. Yooka-Laylee gets a remastered version called Yooka-Re-playee For Xbox Series X/S, PlayStation 5 and “Nintendo platforms,” according to the press release. It is possible that the cumulative use of the platform refers to the current generation Nintendo Switch and Nintendo’s next console.
Yooka-Laylee is a kind of spiritual successor of 3D platformers Banjo-Kazooie and Spyro the Dragon. In fact, some of the people who worked on the original Banjo-Kazooie and Donkey Kong Country helped bring Yooka-Laylee out.
Playtonic funded the development of a successful startup title In 2015, it raised over £2 million. The game came out two years later for consoles, PC and Mac. Then in 2017 Playtonic Games released a sequel Yooka-Laylee and the Impossible Nest.

Yooka-Laylee plays as updated Banjo-Kazooie in a new, colorful, open world to discover. The titular duo is a chameleon and a bat battling a ruthless CEO named Capital B who is trying to steal all the world’s books with a giant vacuum. Yooka and Laylee travel to a world called Hivory Towers to stop Capital B from finding the “Pages” of a Book that can rewrite the universe.
