Alan Wake 2’s upcoming PS5 Pro update will add a 4K ray-tracing mode

Today marks five days ago is its first anniversary, and the developers at Remedy Entertainment have some great news for gamers. First, those planning to buy the game will enjoy improved Quality and Performance modes. There will also be a free anniversary update, which promises many improvements and “cheats”.

The team at Remedy went deep into Alan Wake 2 but we’ll keep things short here. Both quality and performance modes depend on Sony’s PlayStation Spectral Super Resolution (PSSR) upscaling method. This allows the quality mode to reach 4K output resolution, while the render resolution is 2,176 x 1,224. Ray-traced reflections are enabled, but FPS is only 30. On the other hand, the performance mode also outputs in 4K, but the rendering resolution is only 1536 x 864 and there is no ray tracing. However, the FPS counter will reach 60.

Remedy also claims that the Pro performance mode has improved fog, volume lighting, shadow accuracy and image stabilization. The company further explains that the performance mode for the PS5 Pro is superior to the basic PS5’s quality mode in terms of output resolution and visual detail. The rendering detail isn’t exactly the same, but it’s close.

goes to Alan Wake 2 players (not only, but all of you owners) will be able to enjoy improvements such as an inverted X-axis on the mouse and keyboard, DualSense gyroscope support, haptic support for more items, and a Gameplay Assist menu. There are some “features” on the menu, including immunity to damage, immortality, unlimited ammo, never-ending flashlight batteries, and more.

We’re not sure about you, but that sounds like a recipe for disaster and chaos, but that’s what some players want. Remedy Entertainment is primarily improving the accessibility of the game, which is a welcome sight for those currently struggling with the current control schemes. The anniversary update will be available tomorrow, October 22nd, while the PS5 Pro upgrades don’t have a release date yet.
