Hilton and Be My Eyes team up to make hotels more accessible for blind and low-vision users

Hilton combined with making hotel stays more accessible for blind and visually impaired guests. The free app connects users with sighted volunteers and companies who can help navigate locations and complete tasks using video calls.

By accessing the app’s service directory, selecting the “hotels” option, then the name of the Hilton brand where they are staying, Be My Eyes users will be connected to specific teams on the network. Hilton staff can talk users through operations such as finding and adjusting the in-room thermostat, making coffee, adjusting window coverings, and moving to different areas of the hotel. The partnership includes brands such as Waldorf Astoria, Conrad, DoubleTree by Hilton and Hampton by Hilton, though for now it’s only in the US and Canada.

Hilton and Be My Eyes first teamed up last year to train the Be My AI language model, which uses GPT-4. The goal was to improve the model’s ability to recognize objects in Hilton hotel rooms and how to navigate through gaps. Be My Eyes also uses artificial intelligence to draw text from things like menus and toilet bowls to help users understand what’s written on them.
