Meta will fix “mistakes” in how Threads enforces its rules after complaints about the company’s handling of content moderation on the service. In Adam Mosseri, the head of Threads, said that the company has already made some changes to solve the problems that have arisen.
Mosseri’s comments come as Threads users have become increasingly vocal about Threads’ seemingly aggressive and sometimes outlandish moderation decisions. In one a number of users reported that their accounts were penalized for using the words “crackers” or “salty stuff”. Mosseri did not explain exactly why these types of errors occur, but said that one of the company’s internal tools “,” which prevented human reviewers from seeing “enough context” about the posts they were moderating.
“For those who share concerns about implementation issues: we are looking into it and have already found bugs and made changes,” Mosseri wrote. “Most importantly, our reviewers (people) were making calls without being given context about how the conversations were going, which was wrong. We fix it so they can make better calls and we make fewer mistakes. We are trying to provide a safer experience and we need to do better.”
Content moderation isn’t the only issue plaguing Threads users in recent days. Earlier this week, Mosseri also promised that he was working on a fix to bring Threads service “under review” after widespread complaints.
