Threads code shows that a community groups feature may be in development

Many social media platforms borrow ideas from each other, and Meta recently did something similar. As first reported Threads is testing a community groups feature similar to Subreddits and X Communities. Chris Messina, an early adopter of Threads, this after scanning the code of the latest software update.

Messina discovered references to Loops in the code on Monday. Additionally, the code specifies how users can join or leave communities, as well as the name of the Loop community. In TechCrunch‘s report, an anonymous Instagram source confirmed that the feature is still in the earliest stages of development and has yet to be tested.

In his post, Messina said users can join communities and discuss relevant topics similar to the contest. However, since Threads doesn’t use traditional hashtags, it’s likely that Loops will need a different tagging system.

How Thread’s Loops will work remains to be seen, as we haven’t seen much of it. Developer and leaker Alessandro Paluzzi was able to find out what happened might look like, including a menu for creating new Loops. Not much is known about this feature yet and we have to wait for the official announcements to know more.
