Amazon has updated Fire HD 8 series on Wednesday. The 2024 version of the budget tablet has more RAM, a better rear camera and some built-in artificial intelligence. The device, which would normally start at $100 (with lock screen ads), is already on sale for October’s Prime Day.
As the name suggests, the new Fire HD 8 has an 8-inch display with a resolution of 1280 x 800 (189 ppi). One of the big upgrades of the 2024 model is 3GB of RAM on the main storage level (32B). Meanwhile, the 64GB variant slides up to 4GB of RAM. Of course, this is a budget tablet, so these are nowhere near barrier-breaking numbers. But that’s still 50-100 percent higher than the 2GB of RAM on the 2022 model.

Amazon rates the Fire HD 8 for up to 13 hours of battery life. The rear camera of the tablet is 5 megapixels. (This is the same as its “Plus” version 2022 predecessorbut higher than 2MP in the old standard version.)
The tablets will include some generative artificial intelligence capabilities. Like Apple Adopt AI early In the 2024 updates, they include a Writing Assist feature that can write messages based on notifications. It can also summarize web pages, make grammar suggestions, and correct brevity.
There will also be two children’s versions of the tablet: Fire HD 8 Kids and Fire HD 8 Kids Pro. As you’d expect from Amazon’s kid-focused options, these versions will feature a “childproof” case in Disney-branded designs (including Pixar Cars, Disney Princesses or Marvel Avengers). They also come with a subscription Amazon Kids+the company’s content delivery service for kids (including mobile games!).
